It is a massive honour for me to be appointed captain of Highfield for the 2011-2012 season, particularly seeing the previous captains who have gone before me and the proud history of this club. I know that a lot of hard work has been done behind scenes to put the right structures in place for this season, it is now up to us players to ensure an honesty of effort and get the results on the field. In both Fergus Burke and Frank Cooper we have two coaches who care deeply about and the whole club and are working tirelessly to ensure we have a successful season.
As players we can sometimes take for granted the loyal, passionate and vocal support that we receive every Saturday. We know it's not been easy at times but your support does make a real difference and hopefully we can rely on that again this season. I would like to wish all the adult teams success this year - our Development Team, under 21's and Minors. We are a rugby club, not just a single team. I also hope that our Ladies Team can build on their excellent season last year and continue to be one of the top teams in the country.
As a product of our underage section myself, I am well aware of the commitment and dedication of everyone involved at that level. I wish John O'Hea and all the coaches, managers and players the very best luck for the season and hope that the values you strive for at that level are reflected in the senior team. This is my tenth year involved with the senior team and through that period we have seen our fare share of ups and downs, promotions and relegations, good times and bad. Nothing ever comes easy in Highfield, we have to work hard for every break, and if there's a difficult way of doing something you can be sure that we'll find it! But that's what makes us unique I suppose and makes any achievements' all the more memorable. We have a committed and talented group of players this year, I hope we can do the Red, Green & Black proud make it a successful and enjoyable season for all involved.
